September 30 (Day 3)

Reminders: Scholastics due tomorrow  Jeuniatitive club starts tomorrow at 11:45 am (if you want to join) go check out M. Trevor's blog English grammar homework due Wednesday (day 5) Today we: wrote about our weekend started a bit of our great horned owl in art started algebra in math had physical education with M. Trevor - we played a game to help us with our cooperation had music - we looked at our videos of us playing instruments from last week and talked about how we did  read in French for 15 minutes had 25 minutes to work on our English grammar homework on long and short A vowel words talked about Orange shirt day (even in music class) - ask me why we wore orange shirts today! Here are the "number talks" we did today where we share and discuss different strategies we used to find the answer.

September 27 (Day 0)

Reminders: Orange Shirt day on Monday, September 30 - ask me why we wear an orange shirt Scholastics Orders due on October 1 Today we: had our Terry Fox run! - ask me how many laps I ran wrote a reflection about our run and then did a word search with key vocabulary from the Terry Fox run had a short assembly and we video called John Leslie read in French for 30 minutes caught up on some of our work ate snack while we finished the Great Horned Owl documentary read Fatty Legs

September 26 (Day 2)

Terry Fox run information: Starts at 8:45 am On Friday, I need to dress warmly for the weather for the Terry Fox Run (in layers and in safe outdoor shoes to run in rather than winter boots or rain boots).  If it is snowing or raining lightly, we are still running outside.  (If weather is unsafe, we will be inside.)  I also need to bring a pair of dry socks to change into afterwards Bring a donation for the Terry Fox run

September 25 (Day 1)

I will follow the same format in English with grammar introduction on every day 3 followed by an activity sheet that will need to be completed by day 5.  Understandi

Reminders: If you are able, please bring a donation for the Terry Fox run by Friday, September 27 Terry Fox run on Friday, September 27 at 8:45 am Healthy Hunger Special Lunch on Thursday, September 26 Scholastics orders due on October 1 Today we: went outside and played revenge tag did fun math - we used wrote our names in cursive and we turned them into symmetrical kinda cute/scary monsters planted bean seeds and looked at seeds & what the insides looked like - ask me what the different parts of a green bean seed is (l'enveloppe - protège l'embryon, l'embryon - ce qui deviendra la plante, le cotylédon - la nourriture pour la graine) read in French for 25 minutes had social studies and learned about the different symbols of Alberta - ask me what the symbols are! read chapter 3 of Julie et le Bonhomme Sept-Heures and we drew a picture of what we think the Bonhomme Sept-Heures looks like

September 19 (day 4)

**REMINDERS**: No school tomorrow Return student demographic form (purple) Scholastics orders due October 1 Today we: practiced for the Terry Fox run in physical education - ask me how many laps I ran! learned about mindset and read the book "The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes" read in English and answered a couple questions in our journal learned about the different regions in Alberta and how they are divided into the regions with the 6 geographical elements  went to the learning commons and exchanged our books started symmetry in math finished chapter 1 in our French novel "Julie et le Bonhomme Sept Heures"

September 18 (Day 3)

** REMINDERS** Verify, sign and return student demographic form (purple form) Parent-teacher conferences Thursday evening and Friday (no school for students on Friday) Scholastic orders due October 1st Today we: reviewed photosynthesis (la photosynthèse). Ask me how plants make their own food! practiced for the Terry Fox run with M. Trevor during physical education read the book "The Invisible Boy" during snack and discussed how we can make others at Varsity feel more appreciated and valued - ask me how we can make everyone feel included and welcome at school! continued practicing patterns in math - specifically we found the rule of each pattern and elongated the pattern. Trevor - we practiced the Terry Fox run. Ask me how many laps I ran! we read the book "Mind Your Manners" while we ate our snack learned about photosynthesis (la photosynthèse) - ask me if I remember what it is.  played the banjo in music wrote about our weekend looked for patterns in a 100's chart with the multiples of 3, 4 and 5 did silent reading read a text about Terry Fox in French and practiced the close reading strategy to help us build understanding of a text. We use symbols to write down what we're thinking.

September 13 (Day 0)

Today we: met our grade 1 learning buddies - ask me who my buddy is!  finished the book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Here is what we thought: "I loved the book and I would read it 10 more times!" - Maya "At first I wanted to eat Fudge and now I realized that he's a person." - Dane "I want to read the series." - Abi "It reminded me of my other favourite book." - Lexi "Fudge reminded me of my cousin." - Lily "It reminded me of Harry Potter - Fudge as one of the minister of magic people and Peter Pettigrew." - Kai "I want to read more books by Judy Blume." - Zoe "I want a turtle for a birthday." - Rhys " Fudge is crazy!" - Elané played silent ball - ask me how to play! worked on patterns in math in a 100's chart did some silent reading! September 12 (Day 6)

Today we: did social studies - in social studies we learned the different directions to read a map, we learned about the different parts of a map, we practiced identifying north, east, south and west (nord, est, sud et ouest) reviewed our vowels (we played a game to practice spelling long and short A vowel words) did math - in math we worked on patterns  shared our 4 truths and 1 lie had physical education with M. Trevor tried to finish our Terry Fox posters

September 11

Today we: went outside and played revenge and freeze tag did science - ask me what are the needs of plants and how they are different from our needs! did math and we figured out patterns with questions worked on our Terry Fox poster learned where the province of Alberta is in Canada and looked at where the other provinces and territories are too organized the recess equipment for other classes read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing made our reading goals in French - ask me what my reading goal is!

September 10

Today we: went to the learning commons and got some books - we were allowed to take out 2 French books and 1 English book. Ask me which books I chose and how to pick a book at my level! read for 20 minutes to practice for our future daily 5 centers did our first social studies lesson about Alberta and where Alberta is - ask me which continent, hemisphere, country, province and city I live in! reflected on how we think we are doing in school had physical education with M. Trevor learned how we should keep our desks organized for the year made patterns in math using blocks had a lot of fun today! Les régularités en maths

September 9

Today we: started our science on Plants - we wrote what we already know about plants and what we would like to know started our "bâtons" French speaking system in class - ask me how it works! did some art and we wrote our names using 3-dimensional objects had our second music class  made Terry Fox posters started math on 2 and 3-dimensional geometric shapes had physical education - we played a version of capture the flag

September 6

Today we: had our first fire drill finished our 4 truths and 1 lie had an assembly had our first half day wrote in our journals continued reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing

September 5

Today we: did a math test on grade 3 concepts set-up our computer and Google accounts did a French sounds test played capture the flag  Mme started read "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"

September 4

Today we: played "get to know you" bingo played "boule de neige" - we wrote down on a paper 3 things about us and then here comes the good part, we crumpled our paper into a "snowball" then we had a "snowball fight" for 3 minutes and then we picked up whatever "snowball" was on the ground and we read other people's paper when the 3 minutes was done had gym with M. Trevor and played tag wrote 4 truths and 1 lie about ourselves had our first music class wrote a letter to Mme Emily about ourselves discussed class rules 

The First Day of School

Today: We played a name game (The Zombie name game) We shared one highlight from our summer We organized our new materials We made name tags for our desks We got our class responsibilities for the month We made posters to get to know each other using math equations We made new friends We answered Mme Emily's 5 questions for us (Why are we lucky to learn French? How can Mme Emily help us this year? How can we help ourselves be successful this year? Why is school important? The classroom should always be ________________.) We got a tour around the school We had recess and ate lunch *Please fill out school opening forms in orange folder
